Introduction
Dr. Muffazal Lakdawala, is the Best Bariatric surgeon in India, currently heads the Department of Bariatric Surgery at Dr. L.H. Hiranandani Hospital, Powai and Saifee Hospital. An MS in general surgery from the B.Y.L. Nair Hospital, Mumbai, Dr. Lakdawala is also running the Minimal Access Surgery department at Dr. D.Y. Patil Hospital, New Mumbai. In addition to these, he is a consultant surgeon at for Mumbai’s Saifee Hospital, Lilavati Hospital and Research Centre and Prince Ali Khan Hospital.
A brilliant student throughout his academic career, Dr. Lakdawala, Mumbai started his medical career as a lecturer at his alma mater B.Y.L. Nair Hospital. Later on, the best bariatric surgeon in Mumbai completed his fellowship in Bariatric surgery from Cleveland Clinic in Florida, US, one of the leading hospitals in the world in Bariatric Bypass Surgery. He further received training in laparoscopic gastric banding from University of Ghent Hospital, Belgium. His expertise in surgery is acknowledged by the fact that he is one of the 6 surgeons to represent India in the ‘ Thought Leaders Summit’ held in Seoul, South Korea in 2004.Represented India at the First Asia Pacific Surgeons Summit held in Taipei. Taiwan where he spoke on “Procedure selection in Bariatric Surgery†and “The Indian Scenario in Obesity.
Currently, he is imparting his surgical knowledge to not only the bariatric surgery doctors in Mumbai but also to the doctors across the country through training sessions conducted by Ethicon Institute of Endosurgery (ESIS) and Johnson and Johnson Training Centre Mumbai. He runs a training program for a yearly fellowship in Minimal Access Surgery for students for hands on training.
An active member of IAGES (Indian Association of Gastrointestinal Endosurgeons), AMASI (Association of Minimal Access Surgeons), OSSI (Obesity Surgeons Society of India) and Asia Pacific Bariatric Surgeons Group, Dr. Lakdawala regularly presents papers at forums organised by these associations.
An interesting facet of Dr. Lakdawala life is that he was a state level under-19 cricket player during his younger days and had received numerous awards for his sporting feats.
